Career Path
Mathis Albert began his career in the LA Galaxy Academy in the United States, where his pace, creativity and one-on-one ability quickly made him stand out among his age group. In July 2024, he took the leap to Europe by joining Borussia Dortmund’s U17 squad, a move that reflected both the Bundesliga club’s commitment to young international talent and Albert’s ambition to test himself at the highest level.
By January 2025, Albert had already earned promotion to the U19s, becoming a key figure in the attacking unit. Over the 2024/25 season, he made 25 appearances across all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists, including valuable contributions in the UEFA Youth League, where he found the net against Sturm Graz.
On July 1, 2025, Albert signed his first professional contract with Borussia Dortmund II, securing his future with the Black & Yellow until June 30, 2027. His rapid development was further recognized when he was included in the senior squad for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, becoming the youngest player in the tournament and drawing worldwide attention after a brief encounter with Kylian Mbappé.
Internationally, Albert has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects for the United States U17 national team. In 2025, he scored 2 goals and added 1 assist in the Vaclav Jezek Tournament, underlining his ability to impact games against top European youth sides. With the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar on the horizon, he is seen as a central figure for his generation.
At just 16 years old, Albert is already regarded as a fearless winger with explosive acceleration, technical flair and the mentality to thrive in elite competition. His trajectory from South Carolina to Dortmund reflects the growing influence of American players in Europe, and his next steps will be closely followed on both sides of the Atlantic.
